IBIS accesses and utilises a network of consultants and advisors located around the world.  IBIS employs the most advanced information technology tools and techniques to support its collection and analysis efforts, and to develop invaluable custom-made information technology products.  In addition IBIS specialises in strategic management advice and guides and develops information management process.

Leading IBIS and its supporting network of experts is Mike Kühn and Marié-Luce Muller.

Marié-Luce Muller

Marié-Luce is a Director and heads the Competitive Intelligence analysis division within IBIS. She has a distinguished career in Competitive Intelligence, Competitive Intelligence analysis and knowledge building. Her primary experience lies in the fields of centralising, managing and evaluating a wide range of tactical and strategic information into intelligence products, including policy advices and business strategy.

Marié-Luce has published many articles on Competitive Intelligence (CEO Magazine, Finance Week, Business Week, Business Brief, Competitive Intelligence Magazine and the Journal for Competitive Intelligence and Management) including the first article on Competitive Intelligence in South Africa in 1999 (“South Africa: An Emerging CI Player,” published in the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals’ Competitive Intelligence Review). She has also published a series of books on Competitive Intelligence (Nuts & Bolts Business Series, published by Knowledge Resources) and is a member of an international research team comparing the Competitive Intelligence practices among exporting companies in South Africa and Flanders.

In 2002, she developed the first university training course in strategic and competitive analysis that is presented annually at a leading university and is actively involved in developing Competitive Intelligence analysis capabilities in companies and training programs for tertiary education institutions in South Africa. Her consulting activities also involve tracking and scanning competitive forces for a variety of companies. Her latest article (which she co-authored with Prof Wilma Viviers of the North-West University) was published in the Journal for Competitive Intelligence and Management (JCIM) in December 2004.

Marié-Luce holds a Masters in Competitive Intelligence (cum laude) from the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus).

Mike Kühn

Mike is a Director and a co-founder of IBIS. He has a extensive experience in the formal State Intelligence environment where he served for more than 36 years including more than 10 years on Top Management of the National Intelligence Service and the South African Secret Service (SASS). He is a founding member and co-architect of the SASS. For most of his career in the State Intelligence environment he was involved in international responsibilities for which purposes he traveled the world extensively.

Besides close involvement with the management side of the company, Mike specialises in international liaison and strategy. He is jointly responsible for the company’s consulting, marketing and training practices. His involvement includes formal and informal training, management support, the development and establishment of tailor-made Competitive Intelligence capabilities and assisting the management echelons in companies to become globally competitive.

Mike is a graduate from the University of South Africa.

Linda Kotze

Linda is Manager: Business Development at IBIS and also heads the Risk/Integrity Assessment and Profiling division at IBIS.  Linda has a thorough research background and holds a B Juris degree from the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus). Her career includes 20 years in National Defence Intelligence (Counter Intelligence Division) on a national as well as international level, international postings and research and marketing at Integra and later Omega Risk Solutions, specialising in providing Risk and Integrity Assessments and solutions to companies.

Zenita Durrheim

Zenita has sound research and analysis experience and at present is the national project manager of a national annual census on BEE in management for a leading research house.  She has also assisted in the co-ordination of an international conference with over 150 delegates including the creation of brochures and programmes and does psychometric evaluations, organisational diagnoses and the co-ordination and facilitation of Suicide Prevention Workshops for the SAPS. Experience ranges from market research to market and competitor intelligence.  Her expertise ranges across various industries and includes: NGO’s, Banking sector, Lubricant industry, Automotive industry, Cement industry.  Her research expertise lies in the creation of questionnaires and discussion guides, piloting of questionnaires, facilitating and managing interview processes, which includes the creation of briefs and obtaining weekly progress reports and conducting interviews and focus group sessions.

Zenita holds the following degrees and certificates: BAHons (Psychology); Psychometrist (PMT 0072141) and is currently completing her Research Masters in Psychology (PSIN 0087785).

Thinus Coetzee

Thinus Coetzee has more than 26 years experience in the security environment, of which 19 years were in the state military intelligence environment.  Thinus specialises in security risk and threat assessments.  He has been involved in a number of projects relating to the security environment for companies on corporate and lower levels in a variety of economic sectors e.g.  manufacturing, industrial, development, mining, telecommunications, security printing, banking, pharmaceutical and various other industries. This experience extends across the borders of South Africa.

In principle he believes that an analysis of incidents that affect the security of premises should be the starting point for any advice that is given to clients to address their security concerns.

He holds post graduate qualifications in National Strategy.

Grey van der Hoff

Grey holds an MBL (General Management) from Unisa and has extensive export and local marketing experience.  He served on the National Export Advisory Council (NEAC) chaired by the Minister of Trade and Industry and worked for the Development Bank of Southern Africa for 6 years as project leader in industrial development and foreign investment portfolios.  He also worked for the National Productivity Institute for 13 years as marketing manager, market researcher and as head of the consulting division and is trained in benchmarking by BENSA.
